A book spine poem.
This I know:
the true secret of writing,
writing true, writing from life, writing a life —
start where you are.
There is nothing wrong with you.
Sit down and shut up.
Writing down your soul,
write your heart out.
Writing begins with the breath,
the sound of paper.
You are here,
awake in the world,
daring greatly —
Now write!
Just one thing, beautiful you.

I have many of those same books – on my wall, in a shelf, packed away – memories from when I was desperately trying to teach middle school students that they too were writers.
And for a few of them, Jen, it totally worked. You’ll never know that, because they won’t come back and tell you, but there are some of them out there right now, scribbling like mad and loving you for it. ♥
