Something Good

1. Week-Long Spring Break Meditation Retreat at Shambhala Mountain Center with Lodro Rinzler and Susan Piver, FREE tuition.

2. I Vow Not to Burn Out on Lion’s Roar. “Mushim Ikeda says it’s not enough to help others. You have to take care of yourself too.” A friend sent a link to this to me when it first came out, and I finally got around to reading it — such an important reminder.

3. Black Lives Matter Is Not a Hate Group. Things like this are going to be very important to remember in the coming days and years, as a whole collective of people try to flip truth on its head.

4. Writer Resolution, 2017: Write Despite from Chuck Wendig on Terrible Minds.

5. Bodhisattva Vows, a poem by Albert Saijo.

6. An important reminder from Brave Girls Club, “So much pain comes from resisting what IS, from resisting things that are out of your control and can never be changed. So much joy comes from accepting what IS and only changing your response to things. Sit with your feelings, whatever they are. Say YES to them. Sit with your dreams and say yes to those, too. Accept what IS in this moment, rather than resisting it, avoiding it, or resenting it. So many times, whatever IT is just wants to be acknowledged, and then once you sit with it, it will evolve into something beautiful and valuable. Say YES to life in this moment.”

7. Never Stop Yelling At Ivanka Trump. “If Trump’s most vocal opponents allow the debate to be shifted to civility, to proper airline etiquette, then they have absolutely zero chance of winning any of the many actual battles to come.” This is a very important distinction to remember: there are those who will try to attack your “niceness” and your “goodness” as a way of getting you to shut up, give up, stop fighting, and we cannot stop giving voice to what is wrong, can’t allow it to be normalized.

8. How to Read A Lot. As someone with a reading list that would last me five lifetimes, any advice, any trick, any hack is welcome. In related news, Get Intersectional: The Big Llama List of Feminist Books & Other Media, Book & Links List.

15. 7-Point Practice Plan for Engaged Mindfulness in 2017 from Ethan Nichtern. This list was so helpful to me, particularly because he gave the #1 spot to something I’d like to be better at, gave me permission and encouragement to trust that it’s a necessary part of activism.

16. Curvy Yoga Anna Guest-Jelley’s new book. I shared last week, but am doing so again because there’s still time to get the pre-sale bonuses.

17. This ZERO WASTE grocery store is what every market on Earth should look like. An old link, but worth another share.

18. New Year’s resolution generator from Wrong Hands. So fun. And if that doesn’t work, just do this.

20. Coming out, a sweet video.

21. 2016 Was the Year White Liberals Realized How Unjust, Racist, and Sexist America Is.

22. Becoming Ugly. Retitle this “Becoming Fat” and it could have been written by me.

“Women, though not always “good,” have always been nice. And look where it’s gotten us. Stripped of our rights, degraded, and still under the thumb of men. At no point in history has humanity as a whole been nice, so why should I? There’s no longer a place for pleasantness, not publicly anyway. Now is a time for fury and force—a time for guarding the few things we do have (our perseverance, our bodies, each other) because they’re so at risk and so, so precious.”

    jill,

I find myself spending more and more time opening these links when I get your emails. You’re turning into, more than a resource for me, you’re becoming someone I rely on to point me in the right direction spiritually and politically. Please don’t underestimate the good you are doing by sharing something good. Much appreciation and love, Laurie
