Gratitude Friday

This post is a mashup of The Little Bliss List and Joy Jam, and as such is meant to celebrate: the little things that brought me hope and happiness this week, the sweet stuff of life, those small gifts that brought me joy this week. By sharing them, I not only make public my gratitude, but maybe also help you notice your own good stuff and send some positive energy out into the world.

1. Fall color and cooler temperatures.

2. Decaf salted caramel latte from Cafe Ardour. I only drink a half cup of coffee in the morning, so typically avoid any other caffeine throughout the rest of the day, which makes me sad when I visit a coffee shop in the afternoon, especially when it’s cold outside. I am not sure what took me so long, or why I never thought of it before, but any of those tasty creations can be made with decaf coffee–they have the technology! This first one I tried was so delicious, I can’t stop thinking about it.

3. Speaking of cool weather foods: tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich.

4. First Glee episode of the season. I know this show has its critics, but as a former theater geek, I still love it with my whole heart. This was my favorite scene (besides the goodbye scene between Kurt and his dad) from the first episode:

5. Rain. It was a bit bigger, faster than I would have liked it, but I am still grateful for it.

Bonus joys: moments of laughter, everyone in my little family home safe and sound, and retreat (I’ll tell you more about that last one tomorrow).

i love these boys

What were the 3-5 things that gave you joy this week?

1. Oatmeal with peaches.

2. Sick days. Okay, I don’t like feeling sick, don’t like having to take time off from all the things I wish I were doing instead, but…paid sick leave, clean sheets (my favorite set), down blankets on both the couch and the bed, naps, flannel pjs and wool slippers, hot soup and oatmeal, new episodes of 30 Rock on hulu.com (finally), snow falling outside, dogs who like to cuddle–it’s not all bad.

3. Sleeping dogs. Way too cute, probably so cute it’s not even legal. I came out yesterday, and Dexter was napping in the sun in Obi‘s chair, and then, just now, I caught him cuddled with Sam on the couch.

4. Ingrid Michaelson‘s new album, “Human Again,” and tickets to go see her when she’s next in Boulder, at my favorite venue with one of my favorite people.

5. “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” by the women of Glee. I have a sentimental attachment to Roberta Flack’s version of this, but as they often do, Glee stayed true to what was good about that, and made it their own, not better but different while just as good.

Joy to you, lovely people. It’s time for me to take another nap.

This is always so hard.  I am supposed to only list 3-5 things and I always have so many more than that! It’s a wonderful problem to have!

“Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” the Glee version. I was wrapping presents for “my” Pine Ridge kids and watching Glee on hulu.com, and love the version they did of this song. The tempo and tone completely changed it. And it always kills me when Santana cries.

These quotes from Marc Nepo: “Those who truly love us will never knowingly ask us to be other than we are,” and “fish learn from the water and birds learn from the sky.” The last one has me thinking what do we humans learn from?

This quote that Tara Brach shared on Facebook: (Love Quotes by Children) “When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You know that your name is safe in their mouth.”

Hugh MacLeod’s books on creativity, Ignore Everybody: and 39 Other Keys to Creativity” and “Evil Plans: Having Fun on the Road to World Domination.” And, this quote from him: “If you try to make something just to fit your uninformed view of some hypothetical market, you will fail. If you make something special and powerful and honest and true, you will succeed.”

My new metallic markers.
